Fisheries monitoring

Error

Problem:

The need to minimize the damage from illegal fishing.

Success

Solution:

Synchronous operation of the Automatic Identification of Ships (AIS) system, the SiAIS specialized software system and the Atomsat radar satellite constellation.

Wrench

How it works:

All commercial fishing vessels are required to utilize the Universal Automatic Identification System (AIS) equipment, which provides continuous monitoring of vessel location. Vessel location data is accumulated in a database and displayed on the SiAIS portal.

Radar images are acquired irrespective of cloud cover and time of day. All vessels in the water area of seas and oceans are recorded regardless of the presence (shutdown) of onboard AIS equipment.

Identification of illegal fishing vessels is achieved by combining synchronously received AIS data and radar satellite images. If vessels with no AIS signal are detected on the images, an inspection vessel may be sent to the specified area.

Satellite

RS data needed:

• AIS data from the satellite group SITRO-AIS.

Radar satellite data.
